Day 84: Carrots, Eggs, and Coffee

I heard a really great story today from a friend of the family. She heard a program on the radio that went something like this:

A young woman was going through a tough time in her life and wasn't feeling like herself. One day her mother put three pots of water on the stove--in the first pot she put carrots, in the second pot she put eggs, and in the third pot she put coffee. The mother let the pots boil for twenty minutes then set them in front of her daughter and asked, "Which one are you?" The daughter was completely baffled by her mother's question. The mother explained that some people are like carrots--they seem very tough, but when they experience hardships, they soften and sometimes don't know what to do. The mother continued on saying that some people are like eggs--they appear to be very fragile, but when faced with a challenge, they toughen up and can endure much more because of what they went through. Finally, the mother concluded by explaining that some people are like coffee--some people may not seem like much of anything, but as they go through tough times, they grow stronger and transform into something completely new.

The moral? We all go through tough times in different ways, but despite our differences, we all learn from our experiences and become better people. I think that's God's most direct way of getting a point across. God doesn't allow bad things to happen to us as punishment. "Bad" things happen so that we can become stronger, more capable people as well as learn to depend on God.

For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your reward.
~Isaiah 52:12 (KJV)

Whatever I go through--whatever any of God's children go through--God will lead the way. Whether it's to soften a hard heart, harden a soft heart, or just show a "no one" how to become a "someone," God has a plan for each of us, and He knows exactly what each of us was put here on earth to do. Go by God's plan, not your own. There's an old Yiddish proverb that says, "Mann traoch, Gott läuch," which basically means, "Man plans, God laughs"... sort of like how an adult might laugh at a young child who is trying to do something the adult knows is humanly impossible, such as be just like Spider-man. Try to be as patient as possible, because God will show each of us in due time where to go, what to do, and who to meet. And just remember that He is waiting to welcome every single one of us individually into the Kingdom of Heaven. We just need to let God be the pilot instead of the co-pilot.

Lord, thank You SOOOOO much for this day. It was indeed terrific and beautiful. Thank You SO much for who I am and who/what I have. Please watch over my family, friends, and pets; and I ask that You please bless them and keep them safe and strong, happy and healthy. Lord, please watch over the defenders of Your name and this country, and I ask that You please bless them and bring them home safe. Please also watch over their family members and friends, and please bless them with serenity and strength in times of separation and/or loss. Please watch over those who need You most, Lord--those who are weak, sick, misjudged, mistreated, misunderstood, confused, and particularly those whose faith is dwindling or non-existent. Please bless them all with good Christian family members and friends whom You can work through to bring those who do not believe back to you. Please, Lord, guide me as You will and please use me as You will. Whatever You have planned for me, I will gladly follow through. You are my one and only Lord and Savior, and I will follow You forever and ever. Lord, I love You with all of my heart and Soul and I always will no matter what. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Love and God Bless,
M.C.
